Remake: Final Fantasy IV

Just a quick note on this title, it is an amazing transition from the 16-bit era into full 3D. Nintendo always amazes me what they can do with such little space with the NDS. At any rate, this is a true translation into 3D with the original script from Japan for the most part. All in all, they added some features but the game did not see drastic changes like FF3 did when the title went to the NDS in 3D. Any “hardcore” RPG fan will have to pick this title up!

Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King

For years I have been a huge fan of the Final Fantasy series from Squre-Enix, formerly SquareSoft. Many years ago in the day and age of the Nintendo Entertainment System, a friend of mine sold me an extra copy of Final Fantasy. I had never played this title and was scepticle, being in middle school, I didn’t really didicate too much time to any one thing. After spending a couple hours playing this title, I was hooked.

Over the years there is only one Final Fantasy title I have not played, in fact, I am waiting for a Trivial Pursuit: Final Fantasy edition!(Fingers crossed) To stray back to the subject, my long time friend and I have played all of the FF series including the spin offs, FF Tactics/Tactics Advance/Tactics A2/War of the Lions along with the Crystal Chronicles games. My Life as a King would be no different.

My Life as a King is a vast game with great visuals packed into a small package on the WiiWare title lineup. More importantly, this title is the very first title to have downloadable content on the Wii.

Right off the bat you know it is not a typical FF:CC title nor is it a typical FF title. This title is a “city builder” title similar to Maxis’ SimCity franchise. But there are more elements that building a few houses.

And here you are, little king Leo, son of the great King Epitav.

My Life as a King takes place after the events of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, in a remote area of the peaceful world the Crystal Caravans created. The king, having lost this realm to the Miasma, now tries to revive his kingdom through a mysterious power called “Architek” that he received from the crystal. The king pays for research for new items for his warriors to purchase and sends them out to purge the land of evil.

Some key features that appeal to me as a Final Fantasy buff would be the blend of Crystal Chronicles and the main stream Final Fantasy franchise. You will see all the characters from CC but you will also see a “job” system that you see in FF3 and FF Tactics.

Each day you set out your adventures to collect resources and tax you people to advance research along with exploring the land. The day by day mundane tasks has caused some “hardcore” games to give negative feedback. The depth of the game however is amazing, ranging from personal relations of the people to your adventures and their parties, skills, magic and abilities.

All in all, for $15.00 USD and add another $15.00 for the DLC, this is a stellar sim/rpg that has kept me entertained for almost three months now.
